Aloha! SERVPRO® of Kailua’s technicians are trained and certified to restore storm damage, and they are on-call 24-hours a day and typically arrive within four hours of your call. Last month the Hawaiian Islands experienced a Kona low. Kona lows describe a subtropical cyclone that can produce many weather hazards, including heavy rains, hailstorms, flash floods, landslides, high winds, large surf and swell, water spouts, and severe winds thunderstorms. Kailua experienced periods of heavy rainfall throughout the Kona low.
Here is an ancient Hawaiian chant describing a kona low:
Coming is the dark cloud and the rainbow;
Wildly comes the rain and the wind;
Whirlwinds sweep over the earth;
Rolling down are the rocks of the ravines;
The red mountain-streams are rushing to the sea.
Here are the waterspouts;
Tumbled about are the clustering clouds of heaven;
Gushing forth are the springs of the mountains.
