Fire Safety Tips for Fourth of July Celebrations in Kailua?

Aloha! Our local team in Kailua wishes everyone a safe and sane 4th of July holiday. The Honolulu Fire Department sells firecracker permits with valid identification, but all other forms of fireworks are illegal on Oahu. Here are some safe alternatives to using fireworks from the National Fire Protection Association:
- Use glow sticks as a safe alternative to sparklers. They are fun for all ages.
- Loud and proud. Noisemakers are sure to make a statement. They can be found at local party supply stores or make your own.
- Have an outdoor movie night. Set up a screen and projector. Don’t forget the bug spray!
- Red, white, and blue silly string
- Make a patriotic craft with the family
- Throw a birthday party for the USA and don’t forget the cake!
Do-it-yourself Noisemakers
- Clean and dry empty water bottles and fill them with coins, marbles, or beads. Twist the caps back on tightly or glue them shut. Decorate the bottles with glued-on streamers, glitter, or paint.
Second Option
- Take two clear plastic cups and fill the first cup with dried beans, popcorn, coins, buttons, small bells, beads, rice, etc. Put the second cup on top of the filled cup with both lids touching, and tape the two cups together. Shake and have fun!
